Vitamin E might lower eczema risk According to an article on a local ABC news site, children who eat lots of foods containing vitamin E may have a lower risk of developing the itchy skin condition called eczema.

The article mentioned that Japanese researchers measured substances in the blood of nearly 400 children. They found that those with the highest levels of vitamin E-related compounds were at a 67 percent lower risk of eczema.

Although the study does not prove cause and effect, researchers say this study is more precise than earlier research. Vitamin E-rich foods include sunflower seeds, wheat germ, almonds and some leafy greens.


In the article, they mentioned that it was not clear why vitamin E would lower the risk of eczema, but scientists suggest it's antioxidant and immune boosting effect might play a role.
